Project 52, week 7
[my theme]
The song: Sleeper 1972 (listen to it on YouTube here)
The lyrics:
When my dad died the worms ate out both his eyes.
His soul flew right up in the sky and I cried myself to sleep.

My mother lies alone on her back at night.
Adding up hours till her demise, she counts herself to sleep.

When my sister finds my body closed up like the blinds,
I tell her I promise its fine, but she cries herself to sleep.

The men in black ties arrive at the house in surprise.
To find a little girl by your side in the wood box where you're sleeping.

I still see you inside of this God-awful house
You move awfully quiet now
And I still feel you everywhere
You told me this has always been worth living,
But what's really worth living anymore?
The inspiration: This was inspired by the music more than anything else. This song has the most beautiful melodic moment that I've ever heard. Ever. I wanted to capture that level of fragility and beauty somehow. When I saw this bird flitting around, I had my doubts that I could recreate the calmness that's in the song, but it really worked out well. This bird was so small, so light that it just seemed to fit the song's mood.

A more obvious connection is "his soul flew right up in the sky" which is pretty relevant to this photo, simply because of the subject matter. I think with the editing I've done, it's pretty fitting.

I'm going to come back to this song for a different picture (Manchester Orchestra doesn't quite have 52 songs, so I'll have to repeat some), because there's more dimensions to this song than what I've captured here.

The technique: I basically just set my tripod up at the dining room window and waited for the bird to come flying by. Set the shutter speed pretty fast and then held a continuous fire when the bird was flitting around.

You thought these streets were paved in gold, but they're dirty and dark.

Hollywood is your friend, and the undead are your family.

I'm longing with everything I am to tell you my story...to write my words on your heart, just to watch the ink seep into the crevices. I promise it won't hurt--not if you just simply listen.

That little bird had better go find more little birds before it overeats and gets too pudgy to fly. :D

Brighest blessings from the Darkest corners!

If theatre were my religion, the lightboard would be my altar, a roll of tape and a crescent wrench my tools, and a blue wash the light under which all would be consecrated.
